Savard isn’t very good and has horrible underlyings this year. It’s also a bad idea to add that much money to a bottom pairing guy on the roster. They are already spending too much on Mike Matheson for that role. Ruhwedel has been fine and is cheap.

They need to clear cap space there to make room for the guys who need new contracts, not add money to the defense.

The only positive I see here is getting rid of Zucker’s final year.

But since when is he bad? ..... How was he in previous season with Columbus and Tampa?

he’s been terrible for MTL this season. hasn’t really fit in

Unless Montreal is getting good future pieces, Savard is not available. He started the season very badly, but he has come into his own in the past few weeks.

He used to be a defensive specialist type player with good scoring chance suppression numbers and poor offense.

So a new team might really help him. I thought so, that he was a pure defensive specialist, but I don't I think it would matter much, while he would be playing with Matheson.

Still way too much money and term for that kind of player in that kind or role who is now on the wrong side of 30. And you would be gambling on him turning it around.
