Hopeful Offseason to Give Me Hope

Description
1. Try to get one of the defensemen from ANA. Montour isn't going anywhere and I think he is a future stud for ANA. I could see them moving Vatanen, but it would most likely require a price the Flyers shouldn't pay (i.e. Simmonds or Schenn).

2. Sign Vecchione and give him a chance to play some minutes with the vets early and see how he adjust to the NHL.

3. Trade for Duclair if possible. Coots has the ability to drive play by himself essentially so adding scorers to a line with him could possibly improve his offensive development and we can finally see if he could be a solid point producer with young, speedy wingers on each side.

4. We know PEBs and AMac aren't going anywhere so bury AMac in the minors, and keep PEBs on the 4th line at all costs - pair him with Coots on the PK so Coots can cover for his mistakes.

5. Bring up two of the prospects on the blue line. Chose Morin/Sanheim since I traded Hagg. Myers is probably has a good chance to make it, but with the trade for Manson there isn't a need to rush him immediately. If I take that trade back I'd guess we could see Sanheim/Myers next year instead.

6. Sign Lindblom. My gut says he will make the team next year, but Hexy has been extremely patient so I wouldn't be surprised to see if he can light up the AHL first and maybe serve as an injury call up. He could also be called up if....

7. Trade either Filp or Read at the TDL and try to bring back a pick or two between the 2nd-4th Rounds - bring up Lindblom.

8. Personally, I wouldn't mind Mase at a small raise (cap hit identical to Dubnyk) at 2-3 years. I chose two years because a one year deal he is probably going to get between $5.5-6M and he might take more of a discount if he has a little bit more term. Let Lyon or Stolie back him up to see what we have in them.

9. Sign a depth player to stay on the active roster since I dealt Cousins. Lyubimov would be ideal but he might be looking to go back to Russia. However, since he is a RFA a one or two year deal wouldn't be bad.

10. Draft either a center or winger. I chose Rasmussen, but chances are the Flyers get a guy like Cody Glass. I'd prefer Tippett, but it doesn't look like we will be getting a top-5 pick which is where most mock drafts have him going and didn't want to move up to grab him. I'd look at one of the defensemen too if they slide down the draft to our position even though we have solid depth there. The key for me is adding some size at center, but in today's NHL it might be a little overrated. More importantly though the Flyers need to draft a guy that actually projects to be a center and not these hybrid type players that get to the NHL and have to move to wing.

*** DO NOT TOUCH ***
1. Duchene
2. Bishop
3. Shattenkirk
4. Oshie
5. Hanzal
.. Just avoid overpaying for any UFAs for significant money/term PLEASE. I understand these players are showing up on a ton of teams posted here, and all have a lot of positives, but the Flyers should avoid them completely.

*** ALTERNATIVES (FOR THE RIGHT PRICE) ***
1. Galchenyuk for Giroux type deal?
2. Silfverberg (instead of Manson)?
3. Tatar (defensive prospect/pick)?
4. Pearson (Instead of Duclair)?
5. Palat/Johnson (unrealistic since TBL should have the space)?

I like the mock write up, good work. I saw a few expansion mock drafts on ESPN where one had James Neal being taken and another where Silfverberg was. I know they are are older and make more money than Duclair but they are def more established. I think they would be better suited if we are still going to try and compete

You know as well as I do, Manson won't be going anywhere. He's been playing great for us and the asking price for him will be steep.

Vatanen would be your best shot for wanting a RHD. Also, because of his cap hit, he will need to be moved in order to resign key players after next season. Unless we move Fowler beforehand which would be stupid on our part to do that.

Also, BM wants a scoring forward. Getting Hagg in return is okay but not what the Ducks need. They are log jammed with young defensive talent.

How the D should look in a few years
    Lindholm - Manson
    Fowler - Montour
    Theodore - Larsson

Yeah I agree he shouldn't go anywhere but it is hard to predict and like I said this is MY hopeful offseason lol. I figured Hagg would slot nicely on the left side, and I think the Ducks could solve that scoring winger issue by moving Fowler instead. I think their blue line should look like this, but it is only because we value Fowler and Vatanen differently.

    Lindholm - Montour
    Larsson/Hagg - Vatanen
    Hagg/Larsson - Welinski/Theodore

Thanks for the input though this is just what their blue line could still look like IMO in the future if they do this deal. Then substitute the stud forward into the top-6 that you get from moving Fowler...

My only worry with Vatanen is, since he is a smaller d-men he might of only had 1 great year and will be alright for the rest of his career.

Though if we trade Manson, we would have to trade Fowler over Vatanen. I think we need to always have 2 rhd on the blue line at all times. Gives you a nice balance.

Also, the key here is that damn expansion draft. BM's hands are so tied right now because of it, he might just trade a d-man for a bag of potatoes to get something in return and not have to see them 4 times a year vs Vegas.

A lot of things could happen though between the end of the season and the expansion draft.

My trade offer of Hagg/Laughton and a 2nd might not be enough for Manson normally, but that seems like a decent package if your hands are tied - which was my main reaosn for posting it. You know i love the ducks (but mainly the Flyers wink lol) so that's why I always post trade between the two and try to remain partial. Plus, Hagg is exempt at least. I haven't really heard much about Beiksa and I've always assumed he'd waive his NMC but that needs to be considered too cause that could be damming. I think he'll be a team player and waive it or he'd have to be bought out which would throw the cap all out of wack. Yeah a lot can happen and this hopeful outlook will most likely change after the expansion draft because in all honesty its so hard to even project trade value for players when you dont know who is going to be there after Vegas picks. If Vatanen is taken by Vegas then Manson/Montour's value instantly goes through the roof - higher than what it was before - and same can be said for other teams around the league too im sure.

If the Flyers move Simmonds though I could see him going to ANA. Maybe Simmer for Vatanen and Jones or Steel? We need center help bad, but Jones seems to project as a Simmonds type player which interests me.

Lastly, I don't think Vatanen is a one year type player. IMO it could be a combination of a hidden injury or even new contract pressure. either way he will be fine and bounce back next year. I would be more worried about Fowler repeating his numbers next year and the contract he will warrant if he does. That's why i think Fowler could get you a really solid winger like one of the young guys in TOR or maybe ARZ or somewhere

That would be in a perfect world sure. Problem is not every guy is going to be able to get the minutes he'll deserve. In a couple years Theodore will want to be playing top line minutes, so will Montour. Larsson kicking on the doors as well.

I know it feels good holding onto all these dman prospects but eventually you'll have to trade some of them while their value is high for areas of need. If Fowler is in the teams long term future. Theodore should be traded as he'll only get bottom pairing minutes for the foreseeable future which won't increase his value. Larsson maybe too after his ELC is over and needs a new contract. Honestly after this year is done, I'd seriously look to move Vatanen and Fowler.

If I'm Theodore or Larsson I won't be very happy playing bottom pairing minutes. Eventually I'll want to be "the" guy. On this team they wont ever be, not with the depth they already have.
