Using the flat cap as a reason for top players to not get paid is ridiculous. Did you think with a flat cap defensemen would be getting 9m to 9.5m per year extensions in this financial climate?
Yea, sure Pavelski, IF Dallas is out of the playoff hunt may get traded as a rental, but he will go back to Dallas in the off-season.
You can say whatever you want to try to legitimize and convince yourself of whatever youre coming up with in your head. You are not Joe Pavelski, and I can assure you he will do what is best for him and his family first.

I’m not saying they aren’t going to get paid. I’m saying it’s limiting the teams that can pay them. COL can’t afford Kadri next season, unless he takes a friendly deal. Strome wants 7.5, who can pay that? Those D man all made big coin for a number a reasons, that’s the going rate for your top D man and everyone of those guys in #1 on their teams. But 2C aren’t going to be getting 8M deals with 90% of the teams. If they get a deal like that it’s to be 1C and those teams are at the bottom of the barrel so you better be closer to 30 than 40 if you ever want to compete. Maybe Joe wants the 10m x4 years from ARZ. Maybe he wants to win a cup. We will find out come the summer or sooner if he really wants to stay in DAL I’m sure they will sign him before the TDL

Who else do you have in mind for RW?

As long as they are playing the way they are, which means getting points on the pace they are, I see no reason to trade for any RW unless it is an absolute steal of a trade that they don't give up much for. If their play as a team falls off and they start to struggle to get points, that could change.

They have Fox/Lindgren, Trouba/Miller, Nils Lundqvist, Zac Jones, Braiden Schneider, and Matthew Robertson. Schneider is the real deal and Nils seems to be coming along. They have so many quality, young defenseman they will have no choice but to trade some away in the near future. There is ZERO need to add another D no matter how good he is. They need top 6 help in the short term, and Kessel ain't it. He is terrible 5v5 and his defense stinks. He is good on the PP but they already have a good PP unit with no space for him.

Theres no point in debating the defense thing, its a waste of time and energy. People will always look towards the greener grass and not consider the consequences.

Until the next great player becomes available, and he starts legitimizing more nonsense trades to ruin this team.

If you think theyre fine with Dryden Hunt in the top 6 as a RW than youre just as nuts as the thread starter.

Convince yourself of whatever you want, there will be no discounts, players will not take less than what theyre worth.

I felt very similar about that before(about the D). This is a huge add and the cap hit is unreal. But ya, needing a top 6 RW is a need and Kessel is far from perfect but for some strange reason I think about his cups in PIT as a depth guy and 2nd pp threat. We added Goodrow who just wins cups, and Kessel would add some of that playoffs/cup experience. This is the first time I’ve really considered adding him, typically have the same view as you do when it comes to him.

I have made no judgement about Hunt at all. I'm simply saying that while they are racking up points like they are, there is no need to rush to make a trade unless its a steal. Pretty simple train of thought, so not sure why its confusing.

You couldn’t have said it better, a player will be paid what they’re worth. Unfortunately the worth is only what a team is willing to pay. A house could be worth 150k or 750k if someone is willing to pay the price. Not a lot of team can pay the big $ value. Players will take the big $ in bad markets or take less in good ones. I don’t need to convince myself of anything, players have done this many times before. The entire perfection line has taken discounts to be competitive. They could all have been making 8-10 when signing

You can put Kessel on the 2nd PP unit, but they are lucky to get 20 seconds of ice time most penalties. I would much rather see them either develop Laffy at RW or Chytil then give up any assets on an aging rental.

Chytil is garbage and LAF cant play RW, it was tried and failed.

They need to target Pavelski or, even less likely, Giroux as a rental. Sort out this year and take advantage of the cap. Worry about next year, next year.

Youre using most of our open cap on a back up goalie. Thats genius. Yes lets waste our cap on a position we need the least help with.
You completely neglect the weakness we have at center.
You trade for a LD under contract beyond this year which will means we will likely not be able to resign Strome.
By not resigning Strome and having no cap space, that means youre prepared to run Goodrow as your 2C.

Excellent work.

Goodrow has a FOW% of 49.9 while Strome is 43.8. On another note Kreids is 54.8 and this might be something to consider as a 2C if he can get more of a sample size.

You know as well as I do Kreiders numbers are a blip on the radar compared to history.
If Goodrow was the missing link to the 3rd line, dont you think he would be there?

Do you realize the team is 19-7-4 so far this year? Do you realize they have an oversupply of good, young defenseman on the team now and down in Hartford, and that they don't need (nor can afford) another defenseman. Do you realize how old Kessel is and how fairly useless he is 5v5? They need a longer term solution at RW in the top 6, so a Kessel rental is CRAZY. For 2 players they don't need, you want to give 4 first round players/pick plus two other pieces. The entire trade is crazy.....IMO.

Whats the Rangers record and goal differential against playoff teams btw?

Goodrow takes 65% of PK faceoffs and have taken the most D zone faceoffs on our team. While Kreids stats might be a blip, Goodrows aren’t.

Ok, so? He was brought in to be a swiss army knife. He will in no way shape or form elevate the games of LAF and Gauthier.

I see now, you're one of those people that would complain if they went 82-0-0 and 16-0 in the playoffs and won the cup. You would find something to pick at like the PP % wasn't high enough or Georgiev didn't have a high enough save percentage or Trouba makes too much money. Some people are never happy and they are not worth spending time on. See ya.

10% more puck possession would help elevate their game if they don’t have to play as much D. That’s the #1 issue with our C. But yes, he is a Swiss Army knife. If bread go to be offensive 10% more of the time he is on the ice we would see better stats. FO% is the C issue you originally said needed to be addressed

Youre an idiot. Asking you what our record is versus playoff teams is a legitimate question. Its a measuring stick to see how we play against the top teams in the league. However its easy to close your eyes and ears and be oblivious to the fact that we struggle. Lemme help you, this last stretch versus playoff teams, were 0-4-1.
