The Wings are looking more competitive but likely is still a year out from true contention. With that said, valuable experience will be gained this year and if all goes according to plan, some more draft picks as well before adding Vrana, Veleno full time for the second half of this year and potentially a few defensive prospects next year.

Tried to make the trades as realistic as possible, let me know what you think! I think that Griess has some value as well (especially if the Wings could retain money), but I find it unlikely they make four trades at one deadline considering they are more competitive than years past. Reasoning for the trades below...

1. Leddy (with 50%) retained goes to Calgary where is he able to play powerplay minutes on a playoff contender. The reduced salary and veteran presence leads to a 1st round pick.
2. Staal gets sent back to NYR on a much better contract than when he left. This is assuming they are still competing in a few months.
3. Admittedly, I haven't read a ton about the Vegas cap issues. That said, it seems like shedding a contract like Dadonov would be helpful. I actually really like Namestnikov as a player given where the Wings currently stand, but he provides Vegas a serviceable replacement while also saving a nice chunk of change.

Even with the Dadonov contract, this roster is still ~$12 million under the cap. Once the season ends, Griess, Stetcher and DeKeyser are likely all gone as well which opens up ~$10 million in additional cap.
