If Vanecek overtakes Samsonov and Wash needs assets elsewhere, I can see the Oil being very interested in using their 1st for this. Also possible Yamamoto could be involved in such a deal I bet, Oil will soon have a lot of winger depth with bigger and skilled wingers arriving soon (Holloway, Lavoie, Savoie etc).

That's my thoughts. Especially since this is based on the assumption Vanecek wins the battle to be the starter, teams won't be lining up with a 1st to trade for the guy who didn't win the job. Different when it's a disgruntled starter or an up and comer blocked by a clear #1 which this is not the case.

I mean if he repeats last season's results he doesn't merit a 1st you're right. If he returns to rookie numbers, and Vanecek is still pushing ahead, it could make sense.

If he repeats last season, and Yamo's results are middling still, I wonder if there might be a swap there.

If he lost the starter's job - which is the whole basis for this AGM - then he simply doesn't have much value. Backup goalies just don't ever command a 1st or a top-6 winger. You can pick them up for fairly cheap.

Also, in 19-20 Samsonov played just 26 games and posted a .913 sv% - hardly groundbreaking numbers. Mikko Koskinen did much better that year, posting .917 in 38 games.

By middling, I mean Yamo still producing at sub .5 ppg like last season. If that happens, we'd have to be honest he's not performing as a top 6 winger.

And hey of Koskinen gets back to .917 somehow, we should be resigning him. No qualms there! But, if that doesn't happen, which it likely won't, a new, young tender with Smith is needed.

Who knows exact cost at this point, so far out. I think I'll just be keeping my eye on Washington's two young goalies as good targets through this season into next.
