I wouldn't give up sandin and a first for him. I know it's cool to bash the Leafs though.

Not bashing the leafs at all, you’re trading in division for a rivals captain, who’s a very good 2C. This is woefully under what the wings would expect. Toronto isn’t burning for another C so they likely hold onto sandin for depth and development, but on value alone Toronto is winning this by a good margin

Dvorak got a 1st and a 2nd and Larkin is much better than him. Kase doesn’t have much value, he can’t stay healthy. Kampf is older than Larkin, and a .25 ppg player. Kerfoot is a useful player, but older than Larkin as well. The trade more or less boils down to a late 1st and sandin, who has good potential but that’s not enough to get Larkin who captains a division rival

I'm not disputing the filler there but neither team would do this based on needs anyway, but let's not fool ourselves out teams would want Sandin in a big way.

Leafs won't give up Sandin, especially with Rielly likely out the door after this year (unless he signs a RNH type deal). Also Kase, Kampf, and Kerfoot have far more value to the Leafs than the Wings so that makes the trade fairly ineffective from both sides. If the Wings trade Larkin, that means full-scale rebuild, they don't need very useful pieces that at the same time aren't young enough to have the potential to be stars. It makes sense that they'd want Sandin as they are short on top D prospects, but Sandin and a 1st isn't enough for Larkin and I think the Leafs would rather have their side of that package. If healthy, Kase will also prove to be worth a lot more than he is right now.

I feel like Larkin is one of those overrated players that people go like ¨Oh Larkin He's good" when he is actually a decent first-line center. also, the leafs have JT and Matthews and I don't think Dubas wants to give up a potential top 2 defenceman and a first for a third liner. On Detroit's side, They would be giving up their top centerman for third liners a late first (Hopefully) and a good defenceman prospect when they have Moritz Sieder, Simon Edvinsson, and William Wallander.

thing about larkin is your not supposed to expect him to put up crazy point, sure hes point totals arent crazy but neither is his team. Hes more of the guy you want to kill a crucial penalty or in the final minutes of a close game. I wouldn't call him a decent first line center but id say he is either a good first line center or a great second line center. and ya this trade benefits neither team.
