I actually don't mind it. I think Hertl could play wing on the second line and pivot into C to take faceoffs on his strong side when needed. Plus I'd hope that we can re-sign either Hertl or Troch, kind of serves as insurance so that we don't lose both. I'm already prepared to lose Nino and think that's fine honestly with some of the young prospects we have coming up - in my head i'm treating him as our own rental.
I would rather not lose Trocheck, but our RW are loaded. We need a bit of help for our top 6 LW. We have Svechnikov that we still need to resign, and then we have nino, but I would rather play nino on the third line with Staal. If hertl can learn to play LW, a line of Trocheck Hertl and Necas would be lethal. Nino already is going to be going so that we can resign Trocheck and Necas. Necas will likely end up making 4-6 mil on his next contract, plus Hertl and Trocheck would want raises. Cole and bear will also need to be resigned. The wild card in the resignings for next year would be ADA. If he performs well and keeps his mouth shut, maybe a 2x1.5mil contract would be next.
As it stands, the canes cup window would be 2-3 years. Defensively, the canes might be a little better, but offense from the d core is a bit lacking with the loss of Hamilton. Offensively, our forward core is about the same, but they are still missing that offensive top 6 winger, particularly at LW. Goaltending, is a big question mark. Statistically, our goalies are really good. But how will they perform behind a stacked d core. They should bounce back, but it depends on if they stay healthy or not. They probably win the metro and should be considered a real threat in the chase for the cup.
