no way the canes take this for a few reasons.
1. the canes need a #1 center, but they are not in a win-now mentality. Stepan is 26 and is in his prime, but he will begin to regress by the time the canes are ready to contend.
2. the larsson-hall and jones-johansen deals definitely set a market for defenseman. faulk is 24, on a sweetheart contract, and a 3 time all star. he definitely yields more than larsson, which is wayyy more than stepan.
3. the canes trading faulk for a first line center roughly the same age is a lateral move that wouldn't really be beneficial in the first place. they don't have a d-man who can replace faulk's production, and they won't for a few years.
