Caps 2021-22 Kuzy stays

Description
Market for Kuzy seems thin, so this would be an ideal assuming he stays. Might be undervaluing the money some of the UFAs would sign for, and not confident AJF is NHL-ready, but this seems like a relatively realistic best-case scenario in my eyes.

Détails additionnels:
VAN could use a better fourth line wing, and WSH needs the cap space, and Hags salary prompts a little extra incentive to take on. Could really apply to any team in need of fourth line/PK help and willing to take on the contract

Détails additionnels:
Solid top 4 defenseman coming off a so-so year. Not sure how he'd be valued but wouldn't expect a big return on any trade; could easily see Schultz being dealt instead with just 1 yr left on his contract

Saw some rumors last night that Suter is looking for a four year deal. Think the Caps stay far away from him if that's the case.

Swap out Jensen trade for a Schultz trade. Jensen is better and has more term for less cap hit. And swap out Suter for Dillon. I don’t see him fitting here due to his contract demands. Samsonov probably gets around 2 mil. I think we’ll be perfectly fine if we just move on from Schultz.

Ah I missed that. You're definitely right if that's the case; wouldn't touch him if four years. Would be nice to get a second-pair D at value if Dillon/Schultz are traded

I just don't see Jensen or TVR as a good enough 2nd pair (love TVR as a third pair) and trading Jensen would clear some space. Agree on parting ways with one of Schultz/Dillon; just depends on the best offer. And I would love if Sammy signed for just $2 mil, guess we'll see what happens

Jensen’s numbers were actually very good this year. If you’re able to find his WAR chart, he was a beast especially at even strength. I’d love to see him next to Orlov on the second pair this coming season. The caps have put a lot of effort into his development since acquiring him. I would like to think they want him around long term and they see that Schultz contract as a bit of an issue now. Agreed on third pair TVR, think he and Dillon should be paired together.

Pay the 4th rounder to dump Kempny instead. He's too expensive to sit on the bench. At least Hagelin would be playing.

Think it would take more than a fourth to dump Kempny. I see him as untradeable with him not playing at all last year and coming off another major injury. One year left doesn't make it too bad, but I just don't see any takers unless the Caps really shell out some high picks, which I don't see them doing

A non contending team should want a cheap 1 year guy for a mid pick. What have they got to lose? He's gone at the end of the year and you get a pick. Hagelin has 2 years left and is more expensive.

I mean if we had our dream off season, obviously they're both gone.

For sure, ideally would have them both gone. But I just think even a non-contending team could find a better way to spend $2.5 mil than on a defenseman that hasn't played meaningful hockey in well over a year (and without having to give up a draft pick). Given how well Hagelin-Dowd-Hathaway played in the postseason, I'd much rather see Kemp gone and keep Hags around despite his salary, but just think Hagelin would be easier to move. Either way, team needs to clear cap space and if someone is willing to take Kempny off our hands, I'd be all for it.

*without giving up any draft pick. They'd be receiving the mid-rounder too, but still think it would take more to take on Kempny given where he's at this stage

If the team doesn't value Hagelin at all, then it wouldn't be. He's got an additional year for $250K more cap hit. If Kempny ends up looking okay again, you could flip him again for a low pick. Potentially turn half a year of Kempny into a mid and low pick.

True, would be nice to flip him midseason for anything, but don't think they'll be able to push him to anyone else by season opener. Gonna have to get below the cap somehow by then

VAN decline, they are set on the wings and also they are trying to shed salary not gain.

Fair point. The main emphasis was trying to move his salary to any team in need of a bottom six winger and willing to take on the contract for a mid-round pick. Not too many teams fit that description, so had to reach somewhere.
