I'm a big believer in Dadonov's ability to bounce back, and for 2.5mil retained for two years, there will be plenty of interest league wide, and they'll definitely get more that a 4th liner and a KHL Star. Ottawa also has no incentive to trade him to Toronto in the first place.

I think Ottawa ends up holding onto him, which is the right call imo. They probably won't retain salary, and they'd definitely be getting a worse player in a contract swap. I think they hang on, and he'll bounce back just fine. I'd be surprised if he doesn't hit 20G goals, 40-50 points.

The only reason ottawa wouldn't do this is because they need veteran leadership. Your getting 2 younger prospects who are close to nhl ready and having a shot. 2019-2020 Ilya Mikheyev was easily a top 6 winger and anybody who watched him can tell you that. Is he not eligible to bouncing back? Also SDA could have a shot at a bottom 6 role. Dadanovs chances of bouncing back are pretty low considering he has gotten worst every season and he is in his mid 30s not getting younger

Lol Ilya is neither a prospect nor is he "easily a top 6 winger". He's 26 turning 27 at the start of the season and he's a 3rd/4th line defensive winger.

SDA is a very skilled player, but I struggle to see him as an NHL regular. He's very scrawny for an NHL player at 5'10 170lbs which isn't a problem on its own, but he's not very willing to engage physically, and he keeps to the perimeter offensively and can't/won't go to the places where goals are scored. He's got vision and playmaking, but he's got no goal scoring ability. It's a tough to really carve a role for yourself in the NHL with a skillset like he has, unless you're a truly elite playmaking talent which he isn't at all.
