They dont need to take Driedger. Seattle to Agent " We would offer you this contract if we selected Driedger." Agent to Seattle "Hmm, very solid offer, but Driedger wants to go to the Free Agency Period." First Day of Free Agency Driedger signs with Seattle.
Edit: Draft Vanecek (Was), Kahkonen (Min), and Point (Dal), then sign Driedger. That is solid, and Point and Kahkonen do not have to clear waivers.
Vanecek is cheaper, and under control longer. If no side deal is in place, that is the biggest lock. Seattle should be taking Vanecek and Kahkonen (who can still be sent to the AHL), along with a vet, like Bishop, or sign Driedger. They have a chance to have solid goalies, without spending a lot of cap on it. Gives them the opportunity to go after a very competitive first line.
