I saw where GMDP was "considering" exposing Duchene. There's not much to consider imo. Kraken can have their pick between Johanson and Duchene and they'll still likely take someone else...Cousins here.

Looking forward, I don't know how this team can have 3-30+ aged defensemen locked up at >$5-6M for the next 5-6 yrs and be competitive. Also, the position of strength on this team is the backend. So looking to move someone to win-now teams...Josi has NMC so either Ekky or Ellis. Who has more value? Ellis has a long term deal, Ekholm is a "rental" but very manageable cap hit. Will he resign with preds? What do the preds want in return - futures, right? If futures, why not trade both? Welcome to the "youth movement" but yikes without Ekholm and Ellis, that d-corps is cringey. Potential is there but probably need to add a veteran in FA.

The trades might be slightly weighted to NAS and maybe the 1sts are 2nds...who knows. Would trade Johanson and/or Duchene but no one is taking them without something vile coming back.

Bellemare and Edler are placeholders...short term veteran deals for not a lot of money.

This gives them space to resign Forsberg and Kunin, 3-1sts (likely late) in a supposedly great draft class, and some prospects that they presently don't have. I have zero confidence that GMDP will do anything close to this. I'm sure he feels the need to 1up Bill Guerin and Ken Holland so I guess we'll see that he protects both Joey and Duchene!
