Description
Kuzy could light it up in Montreal. HABS Need a top flight offensive center for more scoring. KK a risk, may never develop into offensive #2C. No offensive flair but responsible. Trading proven O who needs a change of scenery for younger risk. Schmidt comes home. Canucks get Offensive D and a solid young goalie to back up Demko. Kraken take Jensen, if not Dillion.
Caps protect: Backy, TJ, Wilson, Mantha, Ellers, KK and Sprong up front. Orlov, Carlson and Schmidt on the back end. Samy in the crease. Sign Dreidger to show me contract with a chance to prove he is a #1.

That’s a steep price for Schmidt who supposedly has requested a trade and has a high cap hit for four more years. I like Schmidt, but not at the cost of Vanecek.

Vanecek is gone. If not protected goes to Kraken for nothing. This way we lose a D (Dillion or Jensen) to help the cap. Schmidt is fast, has handled big minutes and while expensive at least we know the cost.

Considering Vegas only got a third round pick for him and then he performed poorly this year, I’m not giving up our young goalie who performed well in a starter position this year. No thanks.

Seattle can take Vanecek then. Do you know how awful asset management it is to trade away pieces for peanuts just so you don’t lose them for nothing in expansion? Seattle can only take one player. If they take Vanecek, we will survive. If we trade away Vanecek for less value than he’s worth and then still lose a player of value, we’re even more screwed.

goalies are worth very little. The Halak 2010 trade should have showed you such

Agreed. The other takes that they cant lose a player for nothing in expansion, I shake my head. You're actually protecting other assets instead by losing said player in expansion

Then why trade Vanecek in the first place if he’s worth so little? Just keep him. I don’t get why people don’t understand that we have no need to trade Vanecek.

Also, what about the Varlamov trade in 2011 then?
