Description
Underlying thoughts on trading for JE -
Teams that *should* think abt trading for JE, i.e. playoff teams that have the trading pieces and who seem to need a boost in order to get them to the next level of contention - CAR, COL, MIN, VGK
Teams whose names seem to come up most frequently in the rumor mill - NYR, CLB, ANA
Teams that have the pieces to trade for JE but don't seem to be interested - LAK
What BUF seems to want - high '21 first + elite prospect + goalie, not taking back cap, Western conference
What BUF *should* want - '22 first + elite prospect + good roster player/plug and play center + willingness to take on some cap and willingness to go with the best deal regardless of location.

In this universe, after checking out the market, Hamilton and CAR realize that neither can do better than the other and CAR gives DH the Pietrangelo deal (~60mil) but spread out over 8 yrs and w/o signing bonuses/NMC. CAR realizes after losing to TBL, in order to win now they need to go all in with DH and JE, even if 24-25 creates tough decisions with Svechnikov, Aho, and Teräväinen up for raises and the cap not necessarily rising yet ... In this universe Svechnikov only wanted to sign a bridge ... however in this universe the team trades longterm flexibility to make the most of its current roster.

Season begins with a loaded top six, a tough to play against defensive 3rd line, and a 'play-the-kids' 4th line that could be supplemented with vets later depending on how the season goes - there's cap space for such adjustments and/or to make a deadline splash.

    Détails additionnels:
Sabers get a good center top 6 center, an elite prospect (CAR gives them a choice between Jarvis and Suzuki), and two firsts, including a '22 one for what will be a more stacked draft. Gardiner is necessary for cap ... BUF would prefer to send Eichel West and take back no cap, but if other bidders are ANA, CLB, and MIN (who also has to give back cap), might this be the only team who can/will send a top six center back along with futures? From CAR's perspective, they may need to go big this year to get over the hump. This trade assumes the JE would be ready to play next season.

For arguments sake, let's just say this deal goes through.

What's the plan for Necas the following year? Just let Nino walk?

If this is all it would cost, I'm down. It will probably cost Necas+ though

Probably let Nino walk and use a cheap ELC to fill his spot. Bokk maybe?

Very well thought out and done, good work. Few thoughts.

Would prefer to move on from McGinn (or move Fast) and use that money plus some cap space to target somebody with more offensive upside (Tatar seemingly would be a good fit with his style of play and analytics that the Canes would love or somebody else in the 3-3.5M range on a shorter term deal like Hoffman, Granlund, etc).

Would also want an improvement on the bottom pair - couple ways to make this happen. Slot Bean up to second pair playing with Pesce and hope that he continues to develop both physically and mentally. Move Skjei for picks and use the cap space to get somebody like Oleksiak and a better RD than Hakanpaa (Hjalm, Mike Reilly, Osterle, Bogosian, etc.)

Still think BUF ultimately wants Necas as part of the deal which if that’s the case is too rich for me personally. Would also rather keep Jarvis and send Suzuki but would be fine with either if this is the deal.

Thanks! You're probably right w/r/t to Necas - or you should be right, though I wonder if MN is valued more by CAR than league-wide ... Beyond MN's value to CAR, I just couldn't see how the cap would work w/o shifting more, and some of that cap from BUF's perspective should need to come from a valuable player like Trocheck in order not to be offset with more picks. Do wonder if another pick/prospect would need to be added to balance for Gardiner.

Wouldn’t be surprised is CAR valued Necas more than across the league. When watching him play you can easily see super star attributes if he continues to develop and he’s team controlled for a long time which is very important. Hard to part with him even if you may be getting back a better players bc of his team control and potentially lighter cap hit down the road.

In terms of Gardiner, he’ll likely be LTIR next season based on recent comments suggesting another back surgery is in his future. If that’s the case the Canes don’t need to offset any cap space or sweeten the pot for BUF to take him.

I thought so too, but apparently he is playing in a Summer league so I can't be too bad.
