A young great player in Marner (which this years 6th can only dream of being) and not losing a 1st in 22 or 23. A rebuilding team would be stupid not to do this.
They'd be handcuffing themselves cap-wise, out a prospect, one of their better, gritty goal scorers, and out a couple picks.
Besides, Marner demanding such a huge payday so early into his career doesn't exactly scream a good character guy, which is what Yzerman seems to look for. I just don't think Marner would fit into what Yzerman is trying to build in Detroit.
