Reinhart is a great player. He is not elite. Marner, simply put, is the much better player and Dubas would be fired for making that trade.

We all get so caught up in cap space these days. Dude if Seattle takes Kerfoot the Leafs are going to have about 16 million to work with this off season. If they don't, the leafs will still have around 12.5. Cap space is not a reason to trade an elite player for a good one when you have more then enough room to keep the team around him good.

Let me put it this way. The Oilers are up against the cap as well correct? Would they trade McDavid for Bergeron just because of that reason? No. Not in a million years. So stop with the silly trades of Mitch Marner for players who are half as good due to "cap reasons" like its gotten way to far at this point. If Mitch Marner had that contract on any other team in the league and this trade was suggested people would be going crazy shooting it down.

Sure the Leafs might have 16m in cap space. But you failed to mention the number of players that they have to fill to make a 22 man roster. Gotta fill Hyman, Thornton, Foligno, Kerfoot, Simmons, Dermot, Galchenyuk, Bogosian and Andersen spots. Leafs are cap strapped. Not saying they should trade Marner, but the Leafs really don't have cap space to make a good supporting cast.

It probably would be better if they did pick and prospects for Reinhart and a smaller cap dump and trade Marner to a different team.

The point is the leafs could get much more then this from another team. You don't trade a top 10 point producer for this. It just doesn't happen.

I bet Reinhart can score in playoffs though. As really skill can get in th eplayoffs but after that you need more than just skill.
Leafs can get more for Marner, but I beleive he is trying to show that a big contract should go to make better depth and a stringer team.

I sure hope they do not sign some of those guys mentioned though.
Thornton can;t keep ip in playoff hockey, and I think Hyman goes elsewhere unless they screw themselves more with a 5 + Mill contarct. He has been great but injuries 3 years straight might not be the best investment.

In almost any Marner the Leafs are going to accept cap back in a trade. I agree with you, they could do better than 7m Reinhart and 4m in cap space as proposed.
