Three good players, but three horrible contracts.

Why would Detroit have any interest in Shattenkirk? We're set at RD for the foreseeable future. We already have Hronek, Seider and one of Lindstrom/Stecher as our RD this up and coming season.

Detroit will say no to that.

Detroit already have Hronek, Seider, and Stecher on the right side. Also, even though Shattenkirk doesn't have a very high cap his actual salary is much higher and it's two years.

Detroit took on Staal this season and got a 2nd but that was for one year and a much lower salary and he was a LD where Detroit have a much bigger need than RD.

The deal isn't totally impossible but the return must be significantly higher for Detroit to be interested. A 1st + a 2nd or a prospect (like Terry)

Wings in need of LHD NOT RHD. No use or room for a 4th RHD.

I wouldn't rule it out totally.
Shattenkirk still puts up good numbers (better than Stecher) and with Stecher becoming UFA he would want a raise so the difference in salary won't be that big either.

If the return to take on Shattenkirk is good enough then Stecher can be traded and bring in even more picks or perhaps a centre prospect. It could be turned into a good deal for Detroit so I'd listen to what they are offering.
