Detroit already have Hronek, Seider, and Stecher on the right side. Also, even though Shattenkirk doesn't have a very high cap his actual salary is much higher and it's two years.
Detroit took on Staal this season and got a 2nd but that was for one year and a much lower salary and he was a LD where Detroit have a much bigger need than RD.
The deal isn't totally impossible but the return must be significantly higher for Detroit to be interested. A 1st + a 2nd or a prospect (like Terry)
