they won't protect foot. That's the problem with this theory.
Because he's a 3rd pairing guy and losing guys like Colton and Joseph is more problematic for a team that has to build it's depth on cheap contracts.
You are basically saying, take our good cheap young depth. You have this massively mistaken point of view that SEA is gonna pull up and take 30 year old players on big contracts like Gourde or TJ.
That's just one massively flawed argument.
Losing a 3C is way more important than losing a 3rd pairing defender. Those are some hard facts of life. Every team in the league would rather keep their 3C over their 3rd pairing guy.

TB is a Factory of drafting and developing fowards defenseman not so much and Foote isn't going to be a'3rd pair guy to much longer. He a big nasty who will be a cheap 2nd pair real soon.

seattle wouldn't take gourde and that terrible contract without something coming back as a sweetener(s). they also never do that TJ trade without sweeteners coming back too. you can't just give seattle all your bad contracts and hope they take them on, it doesnt work like that pal, they're trying to contend as well.

1 I as the description says let a neutral person be Francis knowing who I protected choose Gourde.. Look at Johnson's analytics and he's a quality 3c and with the retention the contract is not bad . Especially if you play him at C instead of the wing .

So this idea that they are going to protect 4 forwards is very off base because you will lose your best young forward as no team is just taking an expensive 30 year old player off your hand.
