Why not keep Varlamov and Leddy...and send Bellows to Seattle to take Bailey?
(not sure if Seattle takes it...but if they like Bellows, I could see it)

33 year old varlamov will probably be top 3-5 in vezina voting this season.

I think it makes sense to sell high on varlamov after the season he's had - same with leddy. Leddy was on pace for 45 points this season and only has 1 year left, but his underlying numbers were pretty bad the 2nd half of the season. I'd rather trade him and use the savings to give more term + AAV to beauvillier , pelech, and sorokin.

Regarding Bailey, I think its possible Seattle takes Bailey if the isles retain 500k along with bellows. He puts up decent numbers but his underlying numbers are mediocre - if the isles made Bailey available I think teams would be interested due to the numbers he puts up in the playoffs, and I think there are some GM's that wouldn't catch that he's not the one that's driving play, its beauvillier and nelson.

smith has a case to be there as well. except can be signed for 1 yr at no more than 3mil instead of 5.5mil for 2 more years. varlamov plays well but remember he is playing under the best defensive systemin the league. IOilers would be better off signing a younger guy in fa for 3-4 yrs or get a younger guy via trade that can be part of the org for 4+. the oilers are not in the business to have a carousel of old goalies

There were plenty of games during the season where the isles were awful defensively and varlamov carried the team. The reason why I chose the oilers is because this is something I can see Holland doing.

I know Bailey had a stretch in beginning of year where he looked a little M.I.A.
But playoff OT goals can make up for it...

Also, I think you'd find takers for Leddy in trade market.

Yeah Bailey is a good player, I just think it makes sense to sell high on him. The isles have more important players to sign in the next 2 years and it might be a lot harder to trade him next offseason. I also have a gut feeling that Anatoli Golyshev is going surprise next season - I rarely have faith in isles forward prospects, but I think he'll have a similar season to guys like the blackhawks sign from Europe.

Yeah he has a flashy skillset and put up points in a defensive system - good thing not all GMs pay attention to analytics. I think they'll be offers for leddy, maybe a 4th rd pick.

What kind of player is Golyshev? Don’t know much about him.

From a style comparison I’d say hes a more gritty panarin - not saying he’ll have that impact, but that’s how he plays. He’s 5th in U21 all-time KHL point scoring behind kuznetsov, kaprizov , tarasenko and buchnevich. Usually when players produce like that at a young age it bodes well for their NHL future. He’s already 26 but has a lot of translatable skills (high end iq and puck skills). He didn’t get drafted till the 4th rd in 2016 because he’s only 5’8 and the Russian factor.

This guys prospect model is high on golyshev. I believe he had kaprizov as a 1st rd pick the year he was drafted.

I would give up Bailey in Expansion Draft with Bellows. After the Regular season that he has had I think he is done, ( his playoff performance helps his trade value.) I agree that you have to sell high on Varlamov. They need to pay Sorokin a potential superstar the big bucks long term. I would go after Reiner pay him 3 million for two years as the backup, I think Korn get revitalize his career. I also his Golyshev will be good as a third line defense guy that can pot in a few goals next to MDC. Isles should buyout Komarov and see if anyone can take Hickey's salary.
