kinda realistic all-in scenario

Description
this scenario probably means that edmonton oilers are might have a lot of salary cap problems in the next few years with puljujarvi's, bouchard's and other young guys' contracts coming up, but it also gives them the best chance to win a cup next season.

edmonton really needs a 1a/1b goalkeeper. mike smith was not the problem on that sweep against the winnipeg, but he is going to be 40 years old next season. father time might not come, but he is really old. they need a backup plan, another goalkeeper that is much better than mikko koskinen so they would not wear down a 40 years old mike smith

    Détails additionnels:
this trade REALLY suspects me on the columbus side of things, you basically trade an amazing goalkeeper on merzlikins for some draft capital. this trade is the most unrealistic one yet, it might be possible if columbus does not think they could resign merzlikins

that's right tbh, canes are doing really great this season and there is no reason for hamilton to leave that team. re-signing larsson would probably be a lot more realistic, as he expressed his interest to stay in edmonton.

Columbus can resign him, he wants to be here and start. The issue is that there is a better goalie in the AHL, so they will trade whoever gets them the higher return this year, play whoever remains in 21-22, and put tarasov in net in 22-23. I think CBJ takes that return. I can see someone else overpaying with a 1 for elvis though. Sidenote, Korpi is solid (not elite) he can win you games and steal you one once and awhile. I think hes better than what is on EDM current roster. He can be had for a bottom 6 or a 3 and 4.

You’re not getting rid of Kassian that easily, and it certainly won’t be to Ottawa where there’s no room for him. There’s a reason Abramov went back to Russia, the forward situation in Ottawa is packed with more trying to push their way up.

That Kassian extension is going to hurt the Oilers for awhile.

yeah, korpi is also a really great keeper, but i felt like if both of them is available, elvis would be the right one and i think they should chase him. after all, mike smith is not a long term answer, elvis might be that long term answer

you are right, kassian has a pretty bad looking contract right now and it will take some picks/players to get out of that contract. as for ottawa, i was looking for a team that could need a tough veteran and would take a flyer on him. as you said, ottawa probably is not that team. i think that at maximum, edmonton could package this years 4th round pick with him to shed his contract. though, it might not be enough of a price for any team to take his contract.
