We can get so much more for Reilly. That is such an underpayment.

I was thinking the opposite. Seems like an overpay

Leaf fans, Wings do not want Engvall, Petan or Kerfoot and they sure the hell are not giving a 2nd round pick for any of the 3.

On this site I see the same bad trade of Engvall or Kerfoot for a 2nd round pick to clear your cap.

Here is the answer. NO

That’s good cause if you look it’s not for either of those players

Dermott too. Sorry, but the same 3 or 4. Why would Wings trade for a player they already have? Dermott is a bottom 2 defenseman, which the Wings already have.

Please elaborate

How can a top pairing defensemen (on a good contract), in the 99th percentile in even strength offence and 88 War% only get back a young 3C and a young defensemen who wouldn't be playing in the Avalanche's lineup if it weren't for injuries.

Also if we are moving Rielly it wouldnt be to the Avs, they do not need another Offensive defensemen.

I agree, this is a lose lose. Awful return for Rielly, and Avs don't need another offensive defensemen.

Jost is really defensively sound 3C who is an RFA with a low QO and his 4 years younger than Reilly. Timmons is a really good RHD prospect who is expansion draft exempt and has had a ton of success in the AHL and is right on track in his development. He would have at least as much value as let’s say a Liljegren, if not more value.

Rielly is a really good offensive defenseman with one year left on his contract, but he would be at best the 4th best D-man on the Avs. His WAR% is propped up from his really good 2018/2019 season. His career averages suggest he is a one dimensional offensive Dman, not much better than a Tyson Barrie or something along those lines. I could definitely see a team starving for offense on the back end giving up a 1st for him, but I can’t see a team giving up two young cost controlled players in important roles trading for 1 year of a offensive Dman

.....and therein lies the rub, you're spot on, Rielly would be 4th best D at best on the Avs. Not something they need so no reason to make the trade. Jost & Timmins are definitely players they do need.

You bring up Tyson Barrie as an example. They got one of the better 2C's in the league on a cheap contract for one year of Barrie + 3C. I think you are undervaluing a top 15 (scoring) D thats on a relatively cheap contract, although Jost is strong defensively, giving up Rielly is not worth it at his production level. Connor Timmins has potential to become stronger, but at 22 years old with 33 games of NHL experience, it just doesn't come close to even one year of Rielly's value. Your point about Rielly not fitting with the Avs is very true, it just doesn't make sense for either team, Avs already have imo the best D core in the league, they dont and shouldnt give up good role players. It also doesnt make sense for the leafs to trade him to the Avs because his value is lowered due to not fitting with the team. But overall you are under valuating Rielly or overvaluing Jost and Timmins. This trade was bad the second he clicked the teams
