Kap has also spent a lot of time away from Malkin due to injuries and still has been producing. Spezza is a bottom 6 forward who is having a very good year but still only on pace for 46 points in the weakest division. And spezza was never apart of the original conversation. The whole argument started when you said Kap was an overpaid 3rd liner, which he’s proven this year that is absolutely not true.

No, the leafs were not wrong about Kap. They traded a player from a position of strength for necessary cap space for Brodie (who has been 10 times as important to the leafs as Kap), and a first round pick. Great trade for both teams.

100% it was a great deal for both teams. Leafs did well on the return, pens got a player who has helped them win games this season. I’m not denying that at all. But Lyle_Bubas keeps saying Kap is an overpaid 3rd liner (which is so untrue). He needed a change of scenery, he got it, it’s worked out for both teams so far. Ya, got to disagree with him there. Kap is not overpaid. To be fair, there no doubt he's benefitted playing with Crosby and Malkin though. But still, not overpaid.
