That’s just made up, since 2009 there has been 2 3 time winners CHI & PIT, a 2 time winner LA, 2 preseason favorites win WSH & TBL. Heck the only one that fits the hot goalie hypothesis is STL. If it was really random chance why would any team do anything to try and improve? Sure injuries and a hot goal tender can win a series but if it were really random more 8 seeds would have fun the cup.

I'm not talking about winning the cup. At least once in the playoffs a better team is upset by a goaltender's performance.

My point is the better team winning is not a guarantee in the playoffs, so it makes no sense to be smugly arrogant about your team's playoff chances when you could just as easily get bounced about because Talbot decided it was Vezina time.

Yeah that’s not what you said originally “tend to be more random chance than quantifiable outcome”. Sure a lower seed can win a round see 2 years ago when both 8 seeds won, but more often than one of the favorites almost always wins the Cup.
