Description
Reider to TOR is a solid replacement for JVR. Leafs also get Sanheim and picks to send JVR and Gardiner to PHI. ARI gets Lyon, a much needed goalie prospect.
Let MDZ walk after this year...replaced by Gardiner
JVR returns to allow Couts to focus on a shut-down role as the 3C
Ghost gives the Jets a LHD and Trouba a top pairing role which he wanted.
EDM trade gives them a PP specialist D man and a solid backup for a playoff run.

However, why does Dallas ever except that trade?
Also do you think from Toronto's perspective that they are receiving value? Because the immediate perception is that philly gets an elite winger while Toronto gets promise, and given the state of both teams regarding the playoff chase this really helps the flyers and not Toronto.

Sure Toronto might be in the chase for a wildcats slot but they are sticking to their rebuild mentality. Sanheim has lots of promise and D is where they are lacking.

As for Dallas, they need depth badly. Read is a solid 2-way player that can slide up and down the lineup as needed.

There seems to a a misguided notion that the Leafs who are in playoff contention, will deliberately make there team worse, just to miss playoffs. Totally false. Leafs management would welcome a playoff run or even in making making the playoffs to give the young guys the experience. To deliberately pull back this year....fantasy.
And the trade with the Leafs: Two good Leaf starters for Rieder.....Leafs have lots of young wingers, he really doesn't add anything now or the future......Sanheim.....the notion that the Leafs don't have promising Dmen is false, Sanheim would just be another and add no immediate help and a 20th pick....is a long way in the future. Probably a bad trade for the Leafs even if they would out of the playoff chase.

Reider is a young talented player. He has a ton of speed and I think would fit well with a playmaker like Marner. Reider hasn't had anyone to play with in Arizona and I think is very underrated.

I don't think the Leafs have anyone who conpares to Sanheim plus Gardiner isn't even that good.

And like I said, sure the Leafs might make the playoffs but sorry to tell you they won't go far. These young kids do NOT know how to win yet.

Forgot to mention that JVR is NOT elite! A guy that has a career high of 61 points is not elite! All you do is over-rate your players.

Sickflow: You may be very right about. Reider, but the Leafs do have wingers and other more important needs. But you're wrong about Gardiner, he is that good, especially this year. He has really improved
And this thought that they the" young kids do NOT know how to win yet". might be true. But you do stomp these aspirations by making poor trades. And these trades are not good for the Leafs.
And "young kids do NOT know how to win yet". Here's a thought. In the NHL they have have fresh minds, they don't know how to lose yet.

Tell me, I look at the Flyers roster and their NHL accomplishments. Definitely some good players who has proven to be good NHLers for a long period of time. But as a group, hardly a team that has proven that they "Know how to win yet." either.

The Leafs blow 2 goal leads nearly every game...they know how to lose and DO NOT know how to win. The Flyers have made the playoffs consistently and are nearly done a "rebuild" the winning will come very soon with a couple moves.

Smoke 'em if you got 'em. Flyers make the playoffs consistently? Three times in the last five years. One playoff round win in the past five years. So in the past five years, the Flyers have one more playoff round win than the Leafs. Hardly world beaters. But if you're right with a few moves, the Flyers might be winning soon, and if I'm right the Leafs will be winning soon. See you in the Conference Finals in 2019.
