The bottom 6 really needs a big shake up. They get outplayed basically every night, especially against good teams. The importance of faceoffs can absolutely be overrated, but I think we could use a right-hand faceoff + PK specialist 4C. The 3rd line really needs a boost, a solid 2-way centerman would be great. That would push a guy like Archibald or Kharia to the 4th, strengthening our depth
Our goaltending situation is up in the air. We are likely going to bid on Grubauer if he goes to market, I doubt we get him. Rotate Koskinen, Bernier or another 1B, and Stalock. Between the 3, one will be playing well at all times. All are on expiring deals so we can sign a legit starter next summer and get cheap backup goaltending from Skinner or Konovolav
I'm not 100% about Hall either. I do think it's realistic that he wants to boost his stats and play on a contender. Given how well Barrie's "show me" deal went, I could see Hall being interested in taking discount. Don't overanalyze that signing though, I know it's far from guaranteed. There's a few other options in free agency
At the TDL, if this team looks legit, I could 100% see us moving Neal in a deal to get a big upgrade, either on the 3rd line or as a 3rd pair LD. Obviously it would cost a lot, but it's the easiest way to gain some cap space without impacting the roster
Connolly is having an awful season, much like Kassian. He has 2YL, Kassian has 3YL. I can't find a similar, bad contract with equal term which would be ideal for both teams. Connolly is more capable than Kassian defensively. He has a much better chance of fitting on the 3rd line in a shutdown role, while being able to drive some offence
I added Niemelainen because of Kassian's extra year. Kassian is 300k cheaper though. Florida could use some defence prospects. We likely have no room for Niemelainen
At this rate, I think swapping Kass with another not so good contract might be smart. Kassian can't play on a shut down, defensive 3rd line. He's ok on the 4th, but there are better options internally. I really don't know where he fits anymore. Archibald is better than him
