Description
We can't overreact mid-season and trade for guys with a few months left on their deal. Upgrades can be done during the summer

Glendening's faceoff % is 68.4, the best in the league, and Holland is familiar with him (probably drafted him too, I'd guess). He's right handed, and can kill penalties. This will take a load off Drai

Iaffolo is speedy and can score goals. Janmark and Iaffolo are the only options I see in free agency for McDavid's wing. I'm not sure about Hoffman anymore because he's in his 30's, he doesn't have speed. This is assuming Nuge stays with Drai and Yamo. Someone needs to play with McD and Pulju, it can't be Neal

Getzlaf is a great veteran centerman, still around 50% FOW. Can still score like a 3C. Might supply some of what Spezza in Toronto does

Jones is a legit top 2 defenseman. He's having a down season so his value is lower but the risk is high. I wouldn't mind taking a chance on him although the trade is highly unlikely to happen

Keep a 1A/1B setup in net at least till Koski is gone. Probably want to hire a goaltending department and a new goalie coach eventually. Teams can have good goaltending without spending a lot

We agree to an extension with Jones. There will be money to resign Bear, Pulju and Nurse the next offseason with a Neal buyout/dump, and Koskinen coming off the books. Bringing the other Jones brother to Edmonton

(I'm not sure about the logistics of extending players before/after a trade but I'd only do this trade knowing he wants to extend)

This trade depends on whether Columbus can't get things together, and if their GM loses patience during the summer

      Lavoie/McLeod whoever Columbus wants more

if you get Seth Jones Bear is out of town on the next plane.
Also you probably wont be resigning nurse either because Jones will be 7-8 Million.

Trading for Jones is pie in the sky. Besides, two 1sts and two good prospects for a guy with 1 year left? Unless its a sign and trade, that makes no sense. I think Getzlaf would be a great addition. Not the player he used to be obviously but yea a solid vet who still has tons of skill and size. I think he costs more than that though. Probably have to offer at least 3M.

Edit: sorry i didnt read the description in the trade. I don't think Jones would sign an extension here however.

Holland's whole career has been about growing from within. I just don't see him moving Bear, at least until his contract ends. If he wants a big payday as an RFA we'll gladly move him for some picks

Yea we could definitely make $3mill work for Getzlaf. In the description I also mentioned this trade is highly unlikely to happened, and that I wouldn't do the trade unless we agree to an extension. The odds are 1 in a million but it could work out well, we need a guy like that

Edit: i just read your edit lol. Yea, I figure maybe his brother being here would help our cause. Definately a crazy idea though, looks good on paper

I figure we'll make it work. Lots of young guys on cheap ELC's pushing for jobs. A Neal buyout will be huge. Maybe we find a way to get rid of Kassian.

That ain't doin' it. If you want core players, you give up core players.

Jones is heading for free agency next summer.. This is an overpay for a guy that's having a down year. This is a glorified rental. Columbus would gladly take 2 B tier prospects and 2 1sts for a guy that probably doesn't want to resign with them (I assume that because nobody every stays there, Dubois, Panarin, Bobrovsky, etc..). Anyways, if a team is willing to give up a core piece, it will be another pending UFA, definitely not a guy with term

And there's been countless trades in history where teams trade core players for picks and prospects lol

Erik Karlsson was traded for 2 B prospects, a 4th liner and a 1st round pick on the final year of his contract, with the agreement he'd extend in SJS. Columbus would be lucky to return what I offered for Jones

Jarmo Kekalainen is infinitely more competent than Pierre Dorion, and has demonstrated it several times. And JP McConnell, while not the local legend his father was, is still light years ahead of Eugene Melnyk. If you want to make comparisons to the Sens, look in the mirror before you cast aspersions elsewhere.

Dude be realistic. Maybe Dorion is an idiot but clearly, that's where the market is for top defensemen. Clearly CBJ fans don't want to see him go I understand that
