I'm a big fan of Hughes but I'm not sure he even makes the team, and if he does it will be in a semi sheltered role

Yeah he's been god-awful defensively this year. He'll have to get better there or someone WILL step up and knock him off the top 6. If he improves there which he mostly likely will he'll probably get the #2/3 LD spot still

The points are there, but i don’t think he’s been that good offensively either. The number of times that Pettersson has been set up for a one timer and had to catch a bad pass from Hughes on the powerplay is insane.

His first 10 games were bad but he's been much better since then. It has a lot to do with him being paired with a 7th defensemen
