Philly could get better if they trade DZ. The only way DD leaves this team is if its a cap dump where a team is willingly taking on DD without giving anything of cap back but we would have to give that team a free draft pick as a result. Given how bad DD is, a 2nd rounder would be the cost IMO. It'll be essentially a team paying DD's salary for a 2nd round pick. That's an easy acquisition for a team that has some extra money to spend.

In this case though DZ > Patyrn so I think you'll have to sweeten it a bit more. Otherwise Marco is right.

Yeah DZ is a decent but not great top 4. Pateryn until prove otherwise is a cheap but top 6 only. DD is a cap dump that needs a sweetener in order to move.

Not sure how this helps the Habs, Del Zotto is not a 1st pairing LD.

I gave you 4 stars because I think this trade works for both teams.

Philadelphia's D situation isn't ideal and they should move a LD. Ghost has been scratched and Del Zotto was scratched last game because of it. Couterier is now out for 4-6 weeks so there is hole and an opportunity at 2nd C. I would bet on DD succeeding in that situation. He has proven that in the right situation with the right wingers (Big and skilled) he is a productive playmaker. MTL just doesn't have this situation unless they put him between Radulov and Pacioretty which doesn't make sense. If Desharnais is between any combo of Schenn, Voracek, Konecey and Simmonds he will be productive. Pateryn is a number 6 RD which can help stabilize Philly's Defence.

The reason I don't give this 5 stars is because I agree with F50marco, it's quite likely Philly could get more for Del Zotto. Also, I'm not sold that Del Zotto is the right guy to play with Weber but it can't hurt to try for what you'd be giving up. I still think the trade works for both teams, sometimes you don't get full value for a guy but you get what your team needs.
