6-year OEL warranty

Créé par: major_hassle
Équipe: 2021-22 Canucks de Vancouver

Description
*this is obviously predicated on the idea that OEL would accept a trade*

premise: OEL set to make bank in 21-22. Myers gets a big bonus summer of 21, then traded. Trade is roughly cap-neutral if Coyotes retain 12% salary (1 million cap/year), and they save roughly 30 million total.

Bridge pettersson and hughes. 23 million in cap space to sign 7 players the next year is plenty.

Seems like a bit much for a Pettersson bridge deal. I think 8 is more realistic

you should give Pettersson longer term, like 6 or 7 years

Would love to but I think the bridge makes sense for team and player: he can bet on himself and get more per year on a later deal, and he would command more per year than the Canucks can afford on a longer deal I would think

Fair! Would love to have Pettersson at 8x3 but the negative Nancy's around here always come out of the woodwork if you have him at that

AZ isn’t taking back salary AND not getting draft picks. They have cash flow issues and no draft picks, this doesn’t address either of those issues.

I don't think Pettersson is the type of guy to drag out contract negotiations I think if you give him 10mil at 8 years a la Eichel he'd probably accept

I actually disagree, it does both: this gives them 30 million in cash savings over 7 years, and pick their favourite Canucks d prospect (you know, the thing you use draft picks to get)

That’s ridiculous. It saves them less than $1M immediately paying for Meyers and a bust like Julovei or an ok prospect like Rathbone. Saving money on a contract that is gone in 4 years doesn’t help their cash flow one iota. The point of training for draft picks like the coyotes want is to NOT have to pay them at all right now and acquire talent. Seriously what a pompous answer.

Well for one, after bonuses are paid in the 2021-2022 season, Myers is owed 2 million for the year and OEL is owed 10.5... so they save 7.3 million in year 1 (after retaining 12%). I think that qualifies as "immediate"

For what it's worth I think adding Juolevi/Rathbone is an overpay, but that's just me

They can’t pay their front office staff who has been furloughed, and while I think OEL is one of the most overrated players in the league, given their financial problems (remember their owners are getting crushed in their primary business of casino’s) if they trade him they are going to demand draft picks and prospects still on ELC’s. Then taking back Meyers makes as much sense as putting a screen door on a submarine. But given the fact that they managed to lose draft picks for testing draft picks that they drafted a guy and renounced him I wouldn’t put anything beyond the Yotes.
