It's a marathon, not a sprint and many Canadian kids view their OHL, WHL, QMJHL draft as the first key indicator if they'll make it to the league. Drafting outside of the top 5 rounds, a team usually look at the player as a project and don't expect them to make an immediate impact in their league, let alone be a star in the NHL. I just did some quick research (thanks to elite prospects) and there's quite the list of players either undrafted or mid-late round picks. Lots of great players overlooked in WHL because of their Bantam aged Draft. Jaden Schwartz, and Rielly Smith had good draft year seasons- maybe their intention for NCAA made them drop in their rounds. Crazy to think Spurgeon is my 7th D, and I still had to leave studs like Pulock, D.Toews out. Lots of other great players who I didn't have space for.
