with the expansion draft, the flames can't go out and spend money, or trade for top tier guys, they would just be exposed in the draft and snatched up by Seattle, then the flames would need to trade picks and players just to get them back.
This roster is great for the draft as it is. As it sits, the player likely to be selected by Seattle should be rittich, though bennet might also be an option as bennet needs a change of scenery. He's great in playoffs, but drops the ball during the regular season.
Assuming the protected dmen being giordano, Andersen, and hanifin, that leaves tanev unprotected, as well as kylington. So they might select one of them, though I would select rittich as a solid backup.
Given this roster and assuming some bounce back from the top line, this team I believe, will get to the WCF. I can't see them winning the WCF but getting there is well within reach. After next offseason, the flames should be cup contenders and will have about 3 years (from 2022-25) to win a cup before a soft rebuild.
Next year, during offseason, treliving should focus on adding top players on the front end, and depending on the performance from johnny and mony, they may be used to get decent players in return.
Personally calgary needs a solid 2nd line Centre preferably right shot. Someone who could play the wing if needed.
As for a replacement for rittich, we have domingue, that should take up the #2 spot, and have Wolf be your #3 until the flames feel comfortable to promote him.
Geoff ward has said that he's looking at potentionally having lindholm at centre, if so this is what I feel the lines would look like.
Tittich wont be selected as a pending UFA. We will likely have to pay for them not take one of Bennett, Dube, or Mangiapane
If I were the flames i would protect gaudreau, monahan, lindholm, tkachuk, dube, bennett and mangiapane and for defense hanifin, andersson and kylington

Sure but that leaves Backlund open which probably won't happen
Backlund is getting old and declining if they take that contract I wouldn’t be too mad
I don't disagree, except for the swedish movement Calgary has made since he is a great mentor. However, the team management likely will not see it this your way I would personally be ok paying a 3rd for them to take Simon. However, that also depends on how much the RFA's need in raises next year
