Pilut is an undrafted LD with 46 NHL games to his credit.

Ottawa has five defenceman drafted in the first round of the previous six drafts (Chabot, Brannstrom, JBD, Thomson, Sanderson), with Chabot the oldest at 23 years old, thirteen months younger than Pilut. Add in veteran NHL defenceman Gudbranson, Zaitsev, and Reilly, KHL veteran Zub, as well as Jaros, Wolanin and Lajoie who have similar or more NHL games played and all of whom we’re actually drafted.

Why does Ottawa need Pilut?

Ottawa has ten guys that are as good or better fighting for spots, and none would cost a 2nd round pick because the team has already signed them, well 9 of 10, waiting on RFA Jaros still.
