Wouldn't both buying low on Virtanen. Nylander for Tanev maybe? I think I'd shy away from that, though. Rather trade our 2017 pick.

Why would you trade Nylander? His chemistry with Matthews has been fantastic and if you just want a top pairing defenseman then you have a bunch of other draft picks and young forwards that would be moved earlier.

Don't know why my fellow Leafs fans....LeafsFan and leafs1967again don't just laugh off this deal as I have. Nylander is a very special player so far. Wasn't he the best Leaf player against Montreal and the Isles?
I know stats aren't everything but Virtanen 62 games....14 points. Nylander 31 games 24 points in the NHL. And why should a rebuilding team give up too much for Tanev. Come next summer and the summer of 2018, the Leafs will have cash to bring in UFAs if needed not to trade a great asset. Want another winger? Don't trade for one....Kapanan, Johnson Soshnivov are just as NHL ready as Virtanen.
Why have you got Komarov as a fifth centre and even Michalek on the team, no sense at all. Connor Carrick whether you like it or not is on the Leafs top 4 so far, not off the team.

I only saw Nylander play a couple times this year, but he's looked like the leafs best player. Virtually untouchable.

Not sure he has been as good as people claim he has been. Auston was a star in that game, Nylander was not. Definitely up for debate. I'd just hold Willy though.

I am of the opinion that you get D now vs wait. Too many teams have waited too long into their rebuild to address glaring needs. I know people like Loov, Dermott and Nielsen but these are by no means locks.
