Teams might have cap room, but that doesn't force them to take players that the Canucks don't want. That trade makes the Isles weaker and more expensive. And don't the Wings have enough overpaid Dmen even without Sbisca. Shatternkirk...Shattenkirk would like the money for the first week, but then question, why I ever came to the Canucks for 7 years for a few dollars more. Sign players that truly want to play in Vancouver.

Edler > De Haan by far. #2 dman on a good team.
Hansen is a very good player. Nelson is better but they need to give back something to make it work. Look at the price of defensemen...

Detroit might need D bad but they don't need bad D(man). Like Mr Crap and his silly trades, I challenge you to look at other teams cap situation before saddling them with players...especially guys like Sbisca and his contract.
These trades sure look Canucks eccentric....so the Canucks get cap space and others expense. You know there is an expansion draft. Look at Isles roster....they likely protect three Dmen. Do they really want Elder on their team as one of the protected? after giving up so much to get him.

Detroit might be D bad but Sbisa isn't the answer to our D needs.

If Shattenkirk wasn't willing to sign long term with Edmonton, Then there's no way he will sign with Vancouver. By all accounts Shattenkirk want to play for his hometown New York Rangers.
