It doesn’t make sense for the Jets to trade down wingers and only get cap relief for doing so. Detroit needs to add a pick, or prospect, but best would be someone who can help the Jets now.

I still don't think Detroit wants to trade Mantha but this is that HUGE over payment you can't turn down. I imagine there will be a bunch of Winnipeg fans angry with this trade since it is quite lopsided in Detroit's favor.

Thank you. I don’t think it is an overpayment. Cap space is worth something. Laine can score lots of goals, but Jets need money for defence. It’s about winning a cup with the best team. Mantha is a solid player that is in his prime and will make his line mates better.

Detroit is also taking a bad contract off the Jets hands. That is worth a pick. That’s why I didn’t add anything else from the Detroit side.

Sure, throw in a pick to make it happen if necessary, but the Jets are a better team with Mantha than Laine and there would be a chance to improve the d and have cost certainty for years on a Mantha contract extension. We could ask for Zadina a 1st and something else, but that doesn’t help the Jets now. They have to move forward as Wheeler isn’t getting younger.

Just my view..... and I am from Winnipeg!

I get that but Laine is 22 4yrs younger than Mantha and is a guaranteed 30 goals a season and he has played in all most every game since being drafted. Counting the 10 games Mantha has played before Laine was drafted and he has played 260 and Laine has played 305. The link below is how Laine compares to the rest of the league since coming into the league and in that period only six players have more goals than Laine and there are 88 players that have more Mantha isn that same window. With you being a Winnipeg and it is just your opinion I do respect that but give it a week or 2 and my comment about that will start making a whole lot of sense.

I hear you. But Laine doesn’t want to sign in Winnipeg and dollar for dollar, I’d rather have Mantha and a solid D, than a minus player that causes drama.

What balances it out then? Adding Zadina? Adding a second/first?
