This trade is a massive win-win for both teams who have stars on trade speculation. This is a swap of two stars for each other in a deal that benefits both clubs and players.

Analysis for clubs:
Winnipeg - through this deal not only solve trading their disgruntled star winger and got back an equally talented star winger (that means they do not have to go to a rebuild if traded to other teams) thereby keeping the strength of their two lines intact, they also got some breathing room in the salary cap front while adding in much needed defensive prospects in their depleted blueline.
Vancouver - this trade not only resolve the loss of Toffoli through acquiring Roslovic but actually getting a real deal goal scoring winger in Laine to play alongside with Pettersson.

All of these players get a much needed change of scenery. Laine wants to play with a strong center, in Vancouver he gets to be slotted with Pettersson or Horvat, two strong star caliber centers (Pettersson being elite) in the league. Boeser gets closer to home as Winnipeg is only short distance bus ride to Minnesota. While in Winnipeg he gets to pay with top notch line mates on top 6 from Sheifele, Wheeler, Connor, Ehlers and Statsny.

Here are the projected lines after the trade:
Van:
L1 Miller - Pettersson - Laine
L2 Pearson - Horvat - Roslovic
L3 Roussel - Gaudette - Sutter
L4 Motte - Beagle - Eriksson
D1 Hughes - Schmidt
D2 Edler - Myers
D3 Benn - Rafferty / Niku
G1 - Holtby
G2 - Demko

Win:
L1 Connor - Scheifele - Wheeler
L2 Ehlers - Statsny - Boeser
L3 Copp - Lowry - Virtanen
L4 Perrault - Thompson - Appleton
D1 Morrissey - DeMelo
D2 Forbort - Pionk
D3 Beaulieu - Poolman
(Joulevi on reserves and Woo on the minors)
G1 - Hellebuyck
G2 - Broissoit

As a Jets fan I feel like it's not super far off, but I feel like the trade would still be even if you replaced Laine with Connor for example and I would say Laine has more trade value than Connor

Unfortunately it is Laine that is disgruntled with Jets management somehow and hence the breakup is inevitable. It is getting something that is equal value while keeping Winnipeg off the rebuild mode. Connor is amazing player, I wouldn't trade Connor as he wants to stay in Winnipeg. If Laine wants to leave, you have to let him leave, but you must get something of equal value. All I have seen so far from other proposals the value returning to Winnipeg results to rebuilding the Jets. Lots of draft picks but no equal talent coming back. So far nothing good for Winnipeg. This deal however requires no draft pick because the Jets get an equally talented Brock Boeser who would like to be in Jets uniform and stay there because Winnipeg is just not far from his home state of Minnesota.

You must keep players that want to stay and trade players who want to leave. Just like in relationships, you cannot force a girl to be with you if they are not into you anymore. Life goes on, only pick people who would enjoy working for your company or girl who enjoys your company. wink
