Description
Kerfoot + Holl for Copp - Leafs get rid of some salary and pick up a solid cheap 3C who is young, good defensively, and plays the PK. Winnipeg picks up a solid offensive center and a defensemen to help their D problems and can be a good shutdown guy and legitimate Top 4D as we saw this year until January before he fell into a slump.
Dermott + Engvall + Petan for Weegar - Leafs get a solid young defensemen who can play either side on a good deal. They give up a good young defensemen in Dermott but if they give him up if they have a chance at Weegar. Engvall wasn't too bad for the Leafs and he can be a solid 2-Way Forward for the Panthers. Petan is a depth forward and will probably crack the lineup as a 4th Liner.
Everyone on LTIR will be part of the Taxi Squad if the NHL goes with the expanded rosters and by the looks of it no AHL Season.

I don't think a bottom-pairing defender, an AHLer and the recently demoted Engvall are enough for a defenseman you're going to play in your top 4.

I think that deal is pretty close. Dermott is 3yrs younger than Weegar and he will be getting paid less. Plus Florida is on an internal cap so they are trying to get as many guys as they can on cheaper deals and probably won't be able to afford Weegar if they want to still be players for the guys who are still Free Agents. Even then Leafs can still add more picks like another 3rd

Why would Florida "want to still be players for the guys who are still Free Agents"? They've got a top-4 defender free agent right under their nose. Think of signing their OWN free agent as, well, signing a free agent. Trading away good players (you are, after all, going to play him in your top 4) for lesser players just because the lesser players are cheaper (guess why?) doesn't constitute smart asset management.
