Description
Love what Yzerman is doing so far, and he's said multiple times in press conferences lately that he will shift his focus to trades with cap strapped teams.

Wonder if he has more up his sleeve, because I'm starting to see a logjam of players that are supposed to play next year on both F and D. Going to be interesting.

Thinking maybe Yzerman is planning for extended rosters for this season, so that is why I have so many scratches. If rosters are not expanded, I imagine he is going to have to move a couple guys. (Helm / Flippula ).

I think seeing Bertuzzi filed for Arbitration, it opens up another buyout window. Maybe Neilsen gets bought out.

Send Luke back, fills a roster spot, he can play C or W. Good PK, faceoff guy. Would be great as 4th line player and for playoffs.

I don't think Yzerman's intention is to bring roster players like Palat in.

If he's basically assigned Seider and Raymond to stay in Sweden for the full year, he's going to field a team of spare parts and AHL-ers or dead contracts like Eriksson, Boychuk etc...

IMO he wants solely picks or prospects in exchange for the cap dump, as it would make sense to expedite the rebuild.

Doubt TB gives up one of their top D prospects to dump cap. They already plan on buying TJ out so not really logical here.

I really hope that Yzerman stays away from cap dumps with 2 or more years left.

I'd gladly take Foote for 2 years of Palat...gladly.

Palat might be a cap dump for TB but he'd be a top 6 / top 9 forward on this team.

I guess I should have prefaced my comment with "In general ..." In this case Palat would be an upgrade for the Wings. You see some ridiculous cap-dump trades in some of the AGMs on here.

I don't think the wings will be good for 3-5 years, so, a cap dump with more term like Ladd might not be terrible if the price is right.

with 2 years left, you buy them out while all the rookies are under ELC's...

I’d take Palat all day as he isn’t a cap dump and would bump Bert to our second line. If we got Foote with him for a 900k Glendening that would be a slam dunk but I don’t see why TB would do that.

If TB were to go with trading Palat to clear cap what does it take?

I’m not sure I completely understand your question but I don’t think TB would have to give assets to move him. I also don’t think they’ll try to move him as he has a full NTC and then next year it moves to a 20 team NTC. He also only has two years left so he could easily be flipped at the TDL or retention to get a great return in the future or next TDL. If they were to waive him like TJ then I’d hope Yzerman grabs him as I could see something like this (off the top of my head)

Palat - Larks - Mantha
Bert - Fabbri - Zadina
Vladdy - Flip - Ryan
Smith - Glendening - Helm

TB needs to clear cap space in order to sign their RFAs. Hypothetically they decide to trade Palat for cap. What do you think that they want in return from Yzerman?

They’d probably ask for a first but given what Schmidt just went for I could see something around that (third rounder).
