I don't see how we can keep Mikheyev, Dermott and Engvall and make it work cap-wise. So I think at least one other move is coming, involving one of them.

Here you traded Kerfoot, but he's the only one we can't afford to trade. We need someone who can play 3rd centre. The position is too important. And 41-year old Thornton is probably not the solution.

I could see Ottawa accepting that. I don't like the idea, but I could see it.

Kerfoot is cost certain, versatile, and not a kid, but also far from old. Good player for a young team, because he can play but won't take away minutes from the future stars. And fills cap until the kids get expensive enough.

That being said, he did not, until the Columbus series, inspire confidence at 3C. And perhaps the addition of Robertson really sparked that line. The Leafs, sadly, cannot afford him, and as old as Jumbo is, he is a true pivot who still has the vision that made his career. His passing to Robertson's release? For one year? Worth a shot. Stick Simmons on there as a cop and call it the Babysitter line.
