Why would Ottawa do that. I get that marner is a great player but the cap hit really hurts his value. I could see Ottawa giving up a top prospect and a top 5 pick

OTT is not going to trade 5th and 33rd OA and their best prospect for a overpaid player they do not want.

I thought Norris was the Sens best prospect?

5th is too little straight. Very low likelyhood of a player at 5th overall being a 90+ point winger. The 5th picks value is entirely from a cap perspective and potential future production due to 5 year age gap. It wont be anywhere as good as marner over the next 4 years (leafs likely contending window with AM34 contract).

5th+33rd is a minimum if I'm dealing marner. On top of that the leafs should be getting an NHL ready cheap winger. I liked batherson cause of his speed and AHL production but hes a similar level prospect as Kapanen was in 2017(without the draft pedigree). Altenrative guys of interest would be for menton/balcers/abramov.

Marner deal only makes sense for the leafs if it gives a top 10 pick, another early 2nd, and then a B+ prospect who can contribute soon to the team.

nah its batherson, i can do balcers or abramov and add from there though that would be acceptable also 5th this year is different than 5th most years
