If they acquire his rights

Description
The reported deal on the table from STL Is 8 years by 7.7 - 8 million without bonuses. If the leafs acquired his rights and gave him the same offer but with ridiculous signing bonuses and structure he is looking for I would assume it would do the job.

Is Toronto really a contender? They are nothing short of terrible in the playoffs.

I wouldn’t say terrible. This season yes.

The previous 3 seasons they did well against very good teams in the first round.

They certainly struggled with consistency this season and backup goaltending cost them.

Are they a team that could contend for a stanley cup? Most definitely. They are a very young team with tons of talent. Thinking that there potential is based on past performance would be foolish.

If you guys were able to get a huuuge return for Marner then it might make some sense. The scenarios where nylander is moved and Andersen is downgraded for a cheaper guy look pretty scary to me. Just sign Demelo or Brodie or trade for Manson if the price is right.

I like the idea of Demelo. Brodie added leafs to his mntc. That may have more to not wanting to be moved this year though. I would pass on Manson unless it is a good deal. Plenty of other Dmen they may fit the bill as well.

The only reason I could see them signing petro is for a discount. He has very little incentive to do that and seems to seperate his business from his play.

You paid Tavares 11 to come to your "contenting" team. Why didn't he sign for 9 or 8? Players rarely take discounts especially long term ones where it may be their last big contract.

Because Tavares was 27 at the time entering his prime, Petro is 30 lol

My usual disclaimer... I am not completely on board with adding petro. It causes a mess this season and even more down the road.

If Kapanen trade wasnt something to heal his ego cause all the flak he got from losing 2020 1st with Marleau, then i think Dubarelli is signaling hes on the way to make something larger...exactly what Pietrangelo is...especially with all the names that are coming out being on the block too ( which is complete 3rd Line depth )

Dont you think Pridham Copperfield can make something out of it...we were 13M in deficit whole 2019/2020

for OP : Robertson is far from ready, ask Petan and Brooks who were also 2 Points per Game ( tho in WHL ) or Bracco who was 1,5 PpG in OHL

Oh they can make the room. Quite easily if they want. I’m certainly not saying I wouldn’t want petro but it has to be a well thought out plan. I just don’t know if overhauling the roster again is what’s best.

8*8=64, But only the team that had him last September can offer an eight year deal. So you're either trying to offer 65 over 7, at a higher cap hit, to outbid, or you're trying to make the first sign-and-trade deal in NHL history. It could be done, but not for a 4th round pick.

I already said it would be more than a fourth

Actually RHD needs to be overhauled and even without Pietrangelo few more $ will need to be shed to do that........at least if quality will be acquired

My version, just to join a trend : https://www.capfriendly.com/armchair-gm/team/1933667
