I'm closer to their financial situation than you are.
Arizona isn't going to trade two years of a #1 goalie (to them) for one year of a #1 goalie (to them) just to save $2.5 million in cash.
"Arguably" is the operative word in your third paragraph.
Yes, there's plenty of reason to believe that Toronto might work out a deal with Arizona, but the Maple Leafs will be the team adding. For example, take out Crouse and make the 2021 pick the 2020 second and you might have a deal. But I still think that Kuemper is one of the few players on that roster the new Coyotes GM won't be moving.
I doubt you're closer to their financial situation than I am.
ARZ may very well trade their #1 goalie to save 2.5M cash. That is a huge win for a team that is struggling to pay signing bonuses and are in arrears with the arena owners. Couple that with financial uncertainty the future holds in a world that is dealing with a pandemic, a shortened schedule, and severely castrated revenue and you have a recipe for trying to find every possible way to save cash.
Andersen
is arguably better than Kuemper. I can expand that argument with some key metrics if you like. Even if you think they're pretty comparable, the 2.5M savings would surely be no small savings for a cash strapped team.
Anyway, this is all supposed to be speculative fun -- we're armchair GMs, dude. Relax.
