I have always said that NHL, 2K, and Madden ratings should be much more spread out to really make better players feel better, and more importantly, add fun to drafting an actual legendary player:
Think about it, when I draft a "high franchise" player, and he becomes a 97 overall, that fun, but its nothing special because there are a bunch of "Eilte" players at 93/94 anyway.
What this does is that it make the best players (like Mcdavid and Crosby and Mackinnon, etc...) 90 Overall. Then playing with someone like Bobby Orr (97), Lemeaux (97), and Gretzky (99) will actually be significantly more fun
Also, if you draft a "high Franchise" guy, he can become a 94 overall, which will make him special, and he will ACTUALLY put up a bunch of 100 point seasons and maybe set some records
Overalls barely mean anything in the game anyways. I've had 81 ovl handle like 90s (usually depends on their speed). and I've had 96 ovls produce like 3rd liners in sim.

Good point, but thats exactly why the spread needs to be wider I feel.
If i have an 87 overall 2nd liner putting up as many points as the 99 overall guy I made for the fun of player, there needs to be a wider spread
now, a 95 overall guy playing with a bunch of 75 overalls will actually make a huge difference, and that 78 overall second liner will be good, but no nearly as good as the 95
Totally agree, plus I feel like once a player hits like 88+ ovr, as long as you don't play them on like the third line they have just as good a chance as a 97-98 ovr at leading the league in points

The amount of 88 overall two-way centers that lead the league in goals is disgusting vs my 95 overall LW sniper
Very much a pipe dream, but I hope EA ditches "Overall" entirely and adopts a more subjective system to determine player abilities. But they're much more contempt with selling virtual cards to dudebros with 99s on them in order to actually modify their game mechanics.

I gotta be honest tho how would a videogame do that, they are just a bunch of 1s and 0s so it needs numerical values to determine skill level for players, thats how ALL games work (even games like COD), the only difference I guess is that NHL shows the numbers
In saying that it would be cool to be more subjective, idk man

I mean, the game already determines the players overall by a formula from all their attributes. You'd just have to ditch the overall formula part. You've already got star rating for each category, why not use or modify those to determine player value.

I guess thats fair, so like a player would have a 92 overall defensive awareness, 89 overall poke check, 87 overall blocking, ... and would have a 4 star defensive stat, and then would have like a 4.5 star "overall"?
Idk man, regardless, they need to make players worse, so that there can actually be legends

Kind of like that, yes.
You also wouldn't need to bloat attributes as well. You could have a greater differential in attributes so that two-way centres are actually bad at things or offensive snipers can have terrible defensive awareness. Would make the truly special players stand out.

I honestly just feel like it would make getting a legendary player that much more special
Like if everyone is in the 70-85 range, and then all of a sudden you get a 91 overall guy its like a crazy rush of dopamine
Unfortantely right now its like my guy becomes a 96 overall and im just like "cool yeah hes awesome, but like he still just put up 60 points"
