I guess but at the same time I'd rather make sure the guys we have on offense who can score stay. If Devon does a bridge deal then leaves, hypothetically, if Wilde and Dobson are still here it hurts less than Beau leaving, again hypothetically. I don't think Toews is our best D man but I would like to see him develop his skating ability to show some more offensive production, which rn I have no reason to doubt will happen but personally I'd give him the contract after that has developed a little more

In this scenario that I’ve locked him up for 7 years, we can still afford beauvillier next offseason because bailey and boychuk are gone.. Cizikas comes off the books Next offseason , clutterbuck will likely be bought out, and varly will be traded. That leaves us with more than enough to retain beau.

Toews is by far our best offensive defenseman right now, and there’s 100 game sample size to prove that. Pulock is a very distant 2nd , no one drives offense better than toews. He’s earned a long term deal, id rather sign him long term now than have to pay him over 7 mill to keep him if he gets a short term deal.
