Sucks to see Saad go, but definitely clears up some of the cap problems for the Hawks. It’d be nice to trade maata for a low pick, but I agree that buy out will be necessary.

Sure is, coming from Buffalo, though i dont think we'll see him score at this pace moving forward

That's fine, he's a really good role player, and he stepped up nicely when Anaheim got injured, can't complain about him. I'd love the hawks to target him.

Haula is brutal plus we have Suter, Nylander, Kurashev, Highmore, Hagel all who will be fighting for a bottom 6 role.

Caggs on the top line is a joke and a bad one. That top line without Saad goes to crap unless he's replaced.

If Crow costs $5M, which I highly doubt going on 36 at the start of next season, we should walk away. $4.5M maybe, $4M yes.

Minor adjustment, but Kampf is the 4C not Carps; Kampf is better at faceoffs and faster as a two way guy which is why he plays C.

I'd keep Maatta over De Haan give his cheaper contract, buyout option and he's younger (just turned 26) so has upside. De Haan is as good as he is going to get, is slower, and not great in the faster transition game or defensive man game the Hawks play

Suter no lie I completely forgot about, so yes him for sure. Haula is a 40-50pt player when healthy according to this numbers, so I'm going to disagree on that one.

As far as Crow goes, I disagree a 5m is a walkaway. Man is a consistent starter, put up a .917,.929,.909 in his last 3 seasons, despite the abysmal defense that is the Hawks. If he's still feeling up to talking the starting role and mentoring Delia, he is very much worth 5m on a 2 year contract, especially when a goalie like Holtby is going to ask and likely get 6m.

As far as Caggs goes, this year when the top line ran Toews, Cagguila, Kubalik they produced 10 EV points. Toews, Saad, Kubalik produced 9 EV points. Even Strength, they were very close in total time together. https://frozenpool.dobbersports.com/frozenpool_linecombo.php?select=F&forward=CHI%3A325%3AJONATHAN%3ATOEWS&games=2019-2020%3AR%3A99&period=ALL&situation=EV. It's not ideal, but dropping Saad gives us money to replace him, Caggs offers a reasonable replacement, and if you chose not to sign Galchenyuk(who you don't need with Suter) you have more money to allocate elsewhere.

Kampf and Carpenter very fair. They can definitely switch.

As far as Maatta or DeHaan, yes Maatta is younger and has more upside, but that's why we're focusing on a buyout here. DeHaan is not quite as easy to buy out, and defensively he's much more solid than Maatta is. Not that I forgot how good Maatta looked this playoffs, but lets not forget how bad he looked during the regular season.

Edit: Maybe find a 4th rounder for Maatta in a trade?

Haula was on pace for 41 points this season prorated for 82 games. Same exact stats the season prior, again prorated to 82 games. He had one good season in Vegas at 55 points but otherwise his career was in the low 30 point range. There is no reason to award him that kind of money to get a 40 point player in a flat cap world. If he were to take under $3M maybe consider it, but would rather see Galchenyuk in that role. Signing both, let alone one of them, with that many prospects on the LW just doesn't make sense in my mind.

Crow is turning 36 at the beginning of next season. He doesn't have it in him to play 55+ games a season anymore, which is mainly the two reasons why he's not worth $5M. I get his save % and like him, but if he costs $5M, we should be looking at someone like Markstrom who's much younger. In a flat cap world, guys like Markstrom or moreso Lehner are not going to be reeling in big contracts. Furhermore, you can 1000% count on Crow taking a slight discount to stay in Chicago.

Caggs is nowhere near the defensive player Saad is for one. Two, you have to look at the matchups with Caggs on the top line versus Saad. Saad they are going to play against bigger 1st line matchups, just looking at EV in isolation is not a good measuring stick. Caggs's Corsi was a -0.9 and Fenwick 0.0; Saad was 3.5 and 3.2. Saad is a far better player and moving him gets you back Haula (not needed), Chucky for the 4th line (Highmore is plenty good), and an extra $1M on Crow.

De Haan can be traded for a 4th round pick. De Haan is only good around the net IMO, he is not good on the edges, not good clearing the puck, has a well documented injury history, and as many knocks as Maatta gets for being slow I think hands down De Haan was slower in the post-season. Maatta and De Haan i believe both can be traded for a 4th maybe 5th and I'd move De Haan and keep the better puck moving and younger defeseman in Maatta.
