Is Gustafsson able to play the right side? Because if not I don't think NY would take the deal. They could probably use him , especially if he can play the stretch pass game and make smooth zone exits, but I doubt they add another lefty as they already have 4 LHD unless they plan on moving skeji to right

LOL. Stop. Fast doesn't bring nearly as much value as Hagelin. I think Fast is a decent player and does good things that don't show up on the scoresheet and to the common fan's eye, but comparing him to Hags is crazy. Hags brought so much more to the table for the Rangers and it's clearly showed since his departure. Fast will never be in the same ballpark as Hags and is easily replaceable.

The Rangers have a surplus of expendable forwards, but need to package a defenseman to make a trade work. Too many average & bad defenders eating their cap between Staal, Girardi, Holden, McIlrath, and Clendening. Obviously they would need to eat some of the salary to trade Staal/G, but they can't get another average D to add to this list. (Truly believe G is not even an option to trade at this point, teams have seen too much film from last year to want that type of liability on the ice). And as pointed out already, they need a RHD badly, very thin after Klein. Skjei will probably have to play the right side on the 2nd pairing. Don't think will McIlrath will ever be a top 4 defenseman.

I posted something similar not so long ago. I used Pokka as the D going to NY though because of their need on the right side. Would be comfortable using either TVR or Pokka to get that done.

I also like where you slotted everyone. Motte might be a stretch on the top line - at least to start the season. I imagine if Toews and Kane start together Panik will play on the left side.
