So we're paying a 3rd which we could use for a player like Hinostroza, Johnsson etc. to get a guy who's indefinitely going to the KHL next season and likely won't play a single game for the Sharks ever?

why?

Carpenter is the backbone of the 4th line that just shut down McDavid and Drat., Quenneville has looked really good in Rockford and is developing nicely, and NY asked for a Second as well, all for a guy who is good, not great, that they don't need, who they can't afford.
