Not capital, not Simpson. It's a term used for fans of the home team. Home team fans -> home fans -> homerism. Defined online as "The tendency of sports fans to advocate for their home teams to an unreasonable or irrational degree" Like 10X value for Wilson.
This usage has nothing to do with a yellow bald cartoon, although one definition does involve Homer, writer of the Iliad, etc.
