Speculating to the future of the franchise: 2026-2027 season.

Key events:

- The Leafs are humiliated by Columbus in the 2020 playoffs.
- Kapanen is lost at the Seattle expansion draft.
- Auston Matthews leaves for Arizona as UFA in 2024.
- Marner is traded by the GM who replaced Kyle Dubas in 2024 for Jamie Drysdale and picks, as the team enters a reset.
- Tavares retires in 2025.
- Rielly becomes captain, and Hyman the alternate captain in 2025.
- Nylander is unexpectedly the player who remains long term with the team. Him and Robertson become elite NHL wingers.

mcdavid signed for 12.5 million in the summer of 2017. 9 years later he isn't going to sign for only 3.5 million more.

my bet is he gets 20 million plus, especially as a UFA and the cap will likely be at over 100 million.
