    Dermott, Mikheyev?

Barabanov didn't sign to play in the AHL.

I'll admit it...I prefer Brodie but the fact Toronto was on his "no trade" list makes me think it is unlikely.

Hamonic is a good D. Gladly would sign him to that contract.

    I'd keep Dermott over Hamonic.

Cheaper (important with flat cap), more mobile, better puck mover (which is important with our fwd group), and most importantly Hamonic is way more brittle. Will he be able to tie his skates in 5 years??

Only time he played a full season was lockout season 12/13.

Dermott has had two years in a row with major injuries....

I like Dermott but I think he is the player the Leafs have to upgrade.

I'd be all for upgrading Holl and keeping Dermott but the Leafs would have Liljegren as their best RHD

OK... Hamonic is 29 and coming off about 7 years in a row with major injuries. Who's the safer investment?

Hamonic is overrated, and had by far his worst season in the last several when he was paired with Leddy his final season in long island. He'd be a terrible fit with Rielly.

Dermott hasn't proved for a single second so far that he can play above 3rd pairing sheltered mins.

Sandin, Lehtonen and Liljregren will be using up those mins next season. I want a D that can play RS in the top 4.

I'd bet against Dermott being able to play RS in the top 4 next season. I'll take a guaranteed top 4 D please.

They would only be adding 250 K a season to upgrade Crouse to Kapanen....Yes these are the types of moves Arizona will be making to improve their team.

Very shortsighted. The window doesn't close in 20/21.

Also, aside from Dermott having a slow recovery at the start of this season (happens to everyone) Dermott has excelled/exceeded expectations on the 3rd pair.

Was he supposed to steal minutes from Rielly and Muzzin to force his way into Top 4? He looked competent down the stretch playing top comp with Holl while Rielly and Muzz were out.

Hamonic will look like Polak within a year or 2, if he's not there already. He looked way better in 18/19 then he did in 19/20. How many players that play his style remain effective into their 30s?? He's not even physical anymore (39 hits in 50 games this year) as the injuries are clearly taking a toll.

Ok not sure of your math, but here we go.

Kap makes 3.2 million, Crouse makes 1.533 million. that is an increase of 1.7 million NOT 250 thousand, unless you are retaining salary.

Arizona has 74.7 million in cap tied up in 16 players. even if the cap is kept at 81.5 million is leaves them 7.8 million to sign several RFA's & UFA's at a million each with only 800k to spare and when they take on Kap it eats up that and some of the money for the other 7 players that they need to field a 23 man roster.

You know that Cap hits are different from actual salary earned right?

Kap is only owed 5 million in the next 2 years and Crouse 3.5 million.

And if the deal is made after July 1st Kap gets a 1 million bonus already paid by the Leafs. So Kap would only be owed 4 million from Arizona over 2 years.

    So yes...250K per season.

And if you add Hossa to the deal Arizona saves 250K a year.

I understand the concept of cap dollars as compared to real dollars.

I think you missed my point, so let me explain it again.

In cap dollars Arizona has 74 million allotted to 16 players, whether Kappanen makes 3.2 in cap dollars or 2 million in real dollars, the cap hit is 3.2 no matter what he gets in real dollars. With Crouse making 1.533 in CAP dollars it is a cap hit to Arizona, sure in real dollars it maybe less, but when you are against the cap ceiling real dollars mean nothing if you have NO CAP Space.

For the purpose of understanding the CAP, real dollars mean virtually nothing. The only time that real dollars mean anything is when a team like Ottawa take on a player with a high Average Cap to reach the Cap Floor but really are paying out a considerable less real salary.

Arizona may or may not have money issues but they most definitely have cap issues.
